1. PURPOSE
To support the next generation of swine health and production professionals by enabling deserving students, particularly those with limited financial resources, to attend and present their research at IPVS Congresses.
2. NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS
Up to 10 scholarships may be awarded per Congress, depending on available resources from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and/or IPVS funds. Applications will be invited on the IPVS website and be limited to approximately 20 applications. The first 20 applications received will be considered.
3. SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
Each approved student will receive:
a) Free registration for the IPVS Congress (20 students), funded by the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
b) Financial support of USD 250 for 10 of the above 20 students, strictly for travel or subsistence expenses. This amount may be reviewed periodically.
c) Proof of appropriate use (e.g., travel receipts, accommodation, meals) must be submitted.
Total financial exposure to the IPVS Board: USD 2,500. This amount is funded by the IPVS Board, not the LOC.
1. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
a) Accepted Scientific Contribution
· Must have an LOC accepted paper (oral or poster) for the upcoming IPVS Congress.
· Priority is given to oral presentations.
b) Student Status Verification
Applicants must demonstrate/prove that they are active students, defined as:
· BVSc, DMV, MSc, or PhD students aged 30 years or younger, pursuing studies in fields related to swine health, production, or veterinary sciences.
Required documentation:
· Valid student ID with expiry date, or
· Official letter from their university or research institution confirming enrolment.
c) Financial Need & Early Career Status
Priority will be given to:
· Students from developing countries (to be defined) but not necessarily excluded students from developed countries.
· Students without significant external funding, such as:
· Industry sponsorship
· Well-funded research groups
· Corporate affiliations
d) Letter of Request: Application for bursary
Applicants must submit a formal letter stating:
· Full name
· Age, gender, nationality
· Academic degree (s) and studies for which they are currently enrolled
· University or research centre at which currently enrolled
· Current position/employment
· Statement of financial need/ motivation for financial assistance
· A well-motivated request for scholarship /financial support
5. APPLICATION PROCESS
a) Students must submit:
· Letter requesting financial assistance
· Proof of student status
· Content of accepted paper
· Disclosure of funding sources, sponsors, or affiliations
b) Applications must be submitted at the time of paper acceptance by the LOC or by a deadline set by the LOC.
c) The IPVS Board or designated Bursary Committee will evaluate applications based on:
· Eligibility
· Financial need
· Scientific merit
· Contribution type (oral papers receive priority)
· Country of origin (developing countries prioritized)
d) Screening & Verification
To ensure fairness and avoid awarding scholarships to well-funded applicants:
· Applicants must disclose all sponsors, affiliations, and funding sources.
· The committee will review:
· Author lists
· Institutional affiliations
· Funding acknowledgments
· applications that do not meet the criteria will be excluded.
This process encourages self-screening, reducing the administrative burden.
6.TERMS & CONDITIONS
a) Scholarship recipients must attend the congress and personally present their accepted work.
b) The $250 USD support must be used exclusively for travel or living expenses related to the Congress.
c) Recipients may be asked to provide:
· Receipts for expenses incurred
· A brief post-congress report
d) Failure to comply may result in:
· Revoking of both the bursary and of free congress registration
· Ineligibility for future support

This policy ensures that:
a) IPVS invests in early-career talent
b) Students from resource-limited regions are supported
c) Scholarships go to those who truly need them
d) The process is transparent, fair, and administratively manageable
Bursary allocations are made at the IPVS Board’s discretion, taking into account broader organisational considerations beyond the published criteria
